Al was born the son of Charlcie and C. A. Burt on May 14, 1935. He grew up in China Spring with his sisters Sissy Garrett, June Smith, and Sue Littlepage and his brothers Charles, TJ, and Gene Burt. He was a graduate of Waco Tech. He married his high school sweetheart Nanette Garrett August 24, 1955. They raised their two girls Arlene and Cindy to have a passion for knowledge and travel. Al and Nanette lived the life of a committed military family for 20 years traveling throughout the US before retiring to the China Spring area.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Dad loved his country. He got his strength and joy from being on the banks of the Brazos River. “Uncle” Al always had time to show you his garden, have a fish fry, and carve pumpkins. He loved to make things grow. He was a true carpenter at heart. He believed in hard work. He passed to us by example a genuine love for a job well done.

He is survived his daughter Cindy Taggart and husband Greg, granddaughter Ashley Wheeler husband Brett, and great granddaughter Landri. Daughter Arlene Zacharias and her daughters Caty Nivan and JaCie Royal and four great grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Larry Smith, Justin Smith, Jamie Chmelar, Bobby Ethridge, Joe Burt, and Bobby Sullivan. Honorary pallbearers Jerry Garrett, Joe Littlepage, and Brian Burt.
