Elve H. Mathis of China Spring died Tuesday in Mansfield.  She was 76.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in China Spring, the Rev. Earl Lanting officiating.  Burial will be at China Spring Cemetery.

Mrs. Mathis was born Oct. 21, 1917, in Mills County.  She graduated from Lometa High School.  She married Chesley Coy Mathis in 1935 in Austin.  He died in 1978.  She lived in Lampasas County  before moving to China Spring in 1955, where she and her husband farmed and ranched.  She was a member of First Baptist Church in China Spring and the China Spring Civic Club.  She was instrumental in organizing Cross Country Water Supply Co.

Survivors include four daughters, Donnis M. Jobe of Gatesville, Neva Thomas and Deborah Mathis Yates, both of China  Spring, and Ethelyne (Joy) Voges of Chilton; two sons, Glynn Mathis of Gatesville and Coy Mathis of China Spring; three sisters, Edna Coble of Lampasas, Florence Short of San Saba and Mary, McMahan of Jal, N.M.; a brother Elmer Harbour of Alvin; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wilkirson-Hatch Funeral Home.

The family will be at 2075 Albert Ranch Road in China Spring.
