Robert Leslie Payne, 80, formally of China Spring, passed away Friday, July 30, 2010, in College Station.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. Curtis Holland officiating. Private graveside services will follow at China Spring Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2, at the funeral home.

Robert was born in China Spring, Texas, to the late Will W. and Lela Talbert Payne. Robert grew up and attended school in China Spring.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jewel Bunch Payne; sons, Kevin Mark Payne, David Scott Payne and Robert Payne; brothers, George Payne, Will B. “Billy” Payne, Nelson Payne and Loraine Payne; and sister, Elsie Lois “Sister” Mann.

Those left behind to cherish Robert’s memory are his sons, Wm. Keith Payne, of California and Robert L. Payne Jr. and wife, Robin, of College Station; daughter, Lois Elaine Sifford and husband, Dan, of Kilgore; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Charlie Gene Payne, of Waco; and cousin, Ann “Sis” Moore, of China Spring.
