Lawrence Alex Spence, 78, of China Spring, died Wednesday, May 19, 1999, at a local nursing home.  Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 22, at Trinity Light House Church with the Rev. Odell Williams officiating.  The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Brookview Funeral Home.

Lawrence Spence was born in Waco on March 8, 1921.  He served in the Army during WWII and worked for Cameron Mills for 20 years and the City of Waco for 14 years.  He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 8564 and a member of Trinity Light House Church.

He is survived by his daughter, Ida Lee Sheppard; three sons, Lawrence Eric Spence, Ronald Earl Spence and Edwin Nay Spence; six sisters, Ruby Keas, Jimmie Harrell, Betty White, Bea Young, Katherine Burtchell and Blanch Vaughn; two brothers, Ira Spence and Jess Osteen; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
