Bettye Lee was born in Waco, Texas, to James Garrett and Evie Lee (Bryant) Jordan. She attended University High School. She married Herbert Lynn Springer on June 18, 1955, at her parents’ home. Herbert was stationed at James Connally Air Force Base in Waco at that time. They lived in England and Greece, and traveled all over Europe. Bettye was a devoted and loving wife and mother. Above all she took great pride in being a homemaker for their five children. After military retirement in Charleston, S.C., they moved back to Texas and made China Spring their home in 1973. Bettye was involved in numerous activities and organizations over the years including Girl Scouts, cheerleading, PTA, and 4-H. She was also a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and was very active member of the Cedar Brake Trail Ride for many years. Later, she provided a home and was caregiver to area veterans. She also babysat her first grandchild, Alesha. She later worked and retired from Sears. Bettye always took pride in talking about her children and grandchildren. She loved shopping at Walmart, playing cards and dominoes (42), and was a “Betty Boop” collector. She also loved her Diet Dr. Pepper and never missed “The Young and the Restless” soap opera.

She was preceded in death by infant son, H.L. Springer; her mother, Evie Autrey; stepfather, Gene Autrey; and grandmother, Beatrice Rowan Bryant.
