Herbert Lynn was born April 10, 1934, in Lawrence County, Tenn., to Mary Magdalene White and Henry Lee Springer. He married the love of his life, Bettye Lee Jordan, on June 18, 1955. Herbert was stationed at James Connally Air Force Base in Waco at that time. Soon thereafter, together, they started an adventurous life of travel that would take them overseas. They lived in England and Greece and travelled all over Europe. Shortly following their return to the States, he received his orders to defend our country by going to DaNang, Vietnam, in 1967. During that time, Bettye and four of the children lived in Waco while he was gone. Upon his joyful return, the family moved to Charleston, S.C. Herbert served from April 18, 1953, to May 31, 1973, with the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a Tech Sergeant.

After military retirement in Charleston, S.C, they moved back to Texas and made China Spring their home in 1973. Herbert then worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier for 35 years, retiring in October of 2008. He received special recognition from the U.S. government for having served 55 years of service with the federal government. He attended MCC where he received his Associate of Applied Science degree in Business Management. He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, and a member of the Cedar Bake Trail Ride for many years. He was also a member of China Spring Lions Club and Vietnam Veteran’s Chapter 1012.

Herbert was preceded in death by his wife, Bettye Lee Springer on Feb. 18, 2012; his parents; and step-mother, Maybelle; two sisters, Christine Bruton and Pauline Springer; and infant son, H. L. Springer.
