Ruby Wilkerson, 78, of Breckenridge, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2009, at Villa Haven Health & Rehabilitation Center. A memorial service will be 10 a.m.
Wednesday, Jan. 14, at Bethany Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Bearden
officiating. Graveside services will follow 3:30 p.m. in the China Spring
Cemetery.

Ruby May Cole was born in El Paso, Texas, to the late Rev. James Fred Cole and Dorothy (Tarrence) Cole. She graduated from Austin High School in El Paso, in 1947, and went on to attend Four C Business School in Waco. She lived most of her adult life in Waco, where she was a clerk for the drivers’ license division of the Texas Department of Public Safety. Ruby married Dorance Orville “D.O.” Wilkerson on July 30, 1976, in Waco. He later preceded her in death. Ruby enjoyed reading, gardening and sharing the love of Jesus with her children. For over 30 years of her life, she taught and directed Preschool Sunday School in the churches she served. She also trained many preschool workers for preschool ministry. In December 2002, Ruby moved to Breckenridge where she was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband; brothers, Jim Cole and John Ed Cole; and one sister, Doris Cole.

Ruby is survived by sons, David Wilson and wife, Lou Alice, of Greensboro, N.C., and Danny Wallace and wife, Susan, of Mineral Wells; daughters, Pamela Brown and husband, Gary, of Pagosa Springs, Colo., and Doris Bearden and husband, Don, of Breckenridge; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Cole and wife, Jean, of Hackleburg, Ala.; and a sister, Lena Ruth Risinger, of Youngtown, Ariz.
