Cloah Ellen Partlow was born to James Wesley Partlow and Sarah Jane Arnold Partlow in Dry Glaize Township, Laclede Co., MO.  She married James Monroe Brown in 1884 and had five children, one of whom did not survive.  The children who lived were Ervin Elmer, Lora Ethel, Porter J., and Floyd Estle Brown.  The family moved to the Waco, Texas area in the mid-1890s and remained there.  They lived in Rock Creek, Texas where James was the cotton gin engineer.

Cloah died of cancer there in 1927, survived by her spouse and children.

Mrs. Chloe Ellen Brown, 62, died at her home at Rock Creek, at 3:30 yesterday afternoon.  Funeral services will be conducted at the China Spring Cemetery at 4:30 this afternoon, with Rev. B. O. Herring, officiating.  She is survived by her husband, J. M. Brown; three sons, E. E. Brown of Breckenridge and T. K. and F. E. Brown of Waco; one daughter, Mrs. W. W. Mayhew of Rock Creek; one sister, Mrs. Rebecca Love of St. Joseph, Mo.; two brothers, Newt Paitlow and Shawnee, Okla., and Bob Paitlow of Stoutland, Mo.  She had been a resident of the county for more than 30 years.
