Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Scott Johnson of Hardin Apartments were to be at  4 p.m. today at Wilkirson and Hatch Chapel with Dr. G. Alfred Brown and Rev. Richard Ivey officiating and burial in China Spring Cemetery.

Mrs. Johnson died Sunday at 7:40 a.m. in a local hospital.  She had been ill several months.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Valley Mills.  She was reared at China Spring, attended North Texas State College at Denton and graduated from Baylor University.

She first taught school at China Spring and later at Waco State Home.  She joined the Waco school system in 1936 and was retired in 1957.  She had taught at North Waco Elementary School about 15 years prior to her retirement.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of Austin Avenue Methodist Church.

Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Grady Vaughn of Vernon; two brothers, George W. Scott and Cullen F. Scott, both of Route 3, Waco; three sisters, Mrs. W. C. Talbert of Route 3, Waco, Miss Melissa Scott and Mrs. A. M. Scott both of 609 North Tenth Street; two grandchildren, Mary Susan Vaughn and Grady Wesley Vaughn II, both of Vernon.
