Claris Opal Allen of Waco, a former employee of Cox’s Department Store, died Wednesday at a local hospital. She was 86.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Wilkirson-Hatch Funeral Home, the Rev. Bill Moody officiating. Burial will be in China Spring Cemetery.

Mrs. Allen was born June 28, 1907 in China Spring where she went to school. She was one of the first two graduates of China Spring High School and went on to attend Four C Business College. She married Johnnie M. Allen on February 4, 1928 in China Spring; he died in 1960. She lived in China Spring until 1946 when she moved to Waco. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star and Herring Avenue Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son, Vernon J. Allen of Garland; brother, Alton Jay of Waco; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
