John Calvin Cross, 67, of McGregor, passed away Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at a local hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at Connally Compton Funeral Directors Chapel with Pastor Aubrey Jackson officiating. Interment will follow at China Spring Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

John was born Dec. 16, 1932, in China Spring, the first child of John and Lola Mae Cross. He served in the Marines from Jan. 1951 to May 1954, as a Military Policeman. He married Helen Tate April 3, 1954.

He was a Bellmead police officer for many years then worked as a deputy for the McLennan County Sheriff’s Department until he retired. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and son and was dearly loved by all.

John was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ruby Fay Cross Parsons.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Helen; daughter, Teressa Garrett and her husband Jerry of Moody; two sons, James Dale Cross and wife Gayle and Doyle Wayne Cross; two grandchildren, Kelly Hughes and J.W. Garret and their spouses; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Jean Patrick, Joyce Thiele and Wanda Brooks.
