Catharine Jones Ferguson, 100, of Waco, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at her home surrounded by her family. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 9, at Westwood Baptist Church in Woodway. Burial will follow at China Spring Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room.

Catharine was born near Walnut Springs, Texas, to the late Tom and Ida Jones. As a young girl, she attended Mount Zion School, and later the Speegleville school. She graduated from Toby’s Business College in Waco. Catharine and Frank Burr Ferguson were married on March 18, 1927. She and Frank lived in Speegleville, where they farmed; then moved to Bosqueville, where they ran a dairy and operated a cafeteria at Blackland Air Field. They moved to Mt. Calm, where they operated the local telephone switchboard, and later moved to San Antonio, where Frank was employed at Kelly Air Force Base. After Frank retired, they returned to Waco, buying a home in the Woodway area and attending Westwood Baptist Church. Catharine and Frank were married 65 years when Frank passed away. Catharine continued to live in Woodway, and last Aug. 27, celebrated her 100th birthday with friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her husband; five sisters; and three brothers.

She is survived by her daughters, Sally Jo Neal, of Woodway, and Sharon Ann Groesbeck and husband, Bob, of Kemp; grandsons, Jim Neal Jr. and wife, Jeannie, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Joe Frank Neal and wife, Denise, of Woodway, John Neal and wife, Fran, of Safford, Ariz., and Cliff Thomason and wife, Cindy, of Mesquite; granddaughters, Kathy Potter and husband, Ken, of McGregor, and Paulette Pennington and husband, Barry, of Mesquite; 20 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; and her sister, Lu Vern Helm.
