Edwin L. Ladd Jr., 17,of Route 1, China Spring, died at 11:55 a.m. Thursday in a Waco hospital after a brief illness.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church at China Spring, Rev. Paul G. Smith and Rev. Earl Vanderford will officiate with burial in China Spring Cemetery.

Edwin Ladd was a junior at China Spring High School.  He was a member of the Cougar football team which played Kemp in a Thanksgiving day bi-district playoff game.  A few days later he was admitted to a hospital for treatment of leukemia.

Last year he was chosen sophomore class favorite at China Spring High School.

Grover Mosier, vocational agriculture teacher at China Spring High School, said young Ladd “carried on an above average program in project work in feeding hogs.  He would have  qualified this year for the Lone Star Farmer Degree.”

Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin L. Ladd, Sr. of Route 1, China Spring; a sister, Linda Ann Ladd; two brothers, Billy Mitchell Ladd and Homer Lee Ladd; and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. W. L. Ladd of China Spring.
