Kenneth Fred Matheson, Sr., of China Spring, passed away July 31, 2008, at a local hospital, after a long illness.

Visitation with the family will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, at Connally/Compton Funeral Home. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, at Connally/Compton Chapel with the Rev. Ivan Ker officiating.

Kenneth was born in Waco, to William F. and Lillie M. Matheson. On Sept. 6, 1966, he married Marcia (Sue) Loutherback in Waco. Later in life, Kenneth married Louann Kirkpatrick in Dallas. He served in the U. S. Air Force for two years as a medic, then as a respiratory therapist for many years at the old Providence Hospital, as a foreman for Southwest Contracting, and in 2006, retired from the city of North Richland Hills as a city street inspector after 20 years of service. Kenneth enjoyed traveling, camping, had a passion for riding his motorcycles with family and friends. He would lighten a room with laughter with his great sense of humor. Most of all, he was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather and was truly loved in return by all.

He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Janis Renee Matheson; and brother, Billy Edward Matheson.

Survivors include his wife, Louann Kirkpatrick; daughter, Barbara Lee Matheson; son, Kenneth Matheson Jr. and wife, Jojo, all of China Spring; step-sons, Jimmy Kirkpatrick and wife, Anna, Joe Kirkpatrick and wife, Christie and Jack Kirkpatrick and wife, Tina; grandchildren, Bradley Matheson, Ashlee Richman, Kade Matheson, Brandon Garrett and Justin Garrett; great-grandchildren, Jase and Aubrey Garrett; 10 step-grandchildren; and sisters, Alice Hoover, Barbara Grace Brown and Betty
Bounds.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to all of the 2nd floor ICU doctors and nurses at Providence Health Center for their loving care and concern.
