Graveside funeral services for Beatrice Olson Place, 95, of Valley Mills, were held Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at China Spring Cemetery, the Rev. Mike Murphy officiating.

Mrs. Place died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004. She was born Feb. 24, 1908, in Whitney, the daughter of the late John Coleman and Rachael (Yates) Helm. She attended school in China Spring, and received her nurse’s training in Austin. On June 7, 1924, she married Fred Olson in China Spring. He preceded her in death on Nov. 8, 1966. On Oct. 29, 1973, she married Frank Baker Place in Valley Mills. He preceded her in death on April 15, 1979.

Three sons — Fred Amos Olson, Billy Olson, and R.C. Olson also preceded her in death, as did stepson Frank Place Jr. of Dallas.

Place was employed as a licensed vocational nurse at Goodall-Witcher Hospital, Clifton Lutheran Sunset Hone, and Valley Mills Care Center, retiring in 1973. In 1954, she moved from Mosheim to Valley Mills, and then to Crawford in 1973. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Crawford, and enjoyed fishing.

She is survived by a son, Carl V. Olson of McGregor; daughter Betty Crelia of McGregor; stepsons Dwain Place of Gatesville and Robert Place of Carrollton; stepdaughters Barbara McCann of College Station and Darlene McEnturff of Big Sandy; a sister, Annie Mae Baker of Whitney; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
