Florence V. Summers, of McGregor died Friday afternoon Aug. 22, 2003 at the age of 86. Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Monday August 25 at College Avenue
Baptist Church in McGregor with the Rev. David Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in China Spring Cemetery under the direction of Cole Funeral Home, McGregor. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Summers was born Oct. 10, 1916 in Fort Worth, the daughter of Hiram Louis and Annie Mae Hudson Eckols. In 1919 she moved to McGregor where she was a 1935 graduate of McGregor High School.
On May 23, 1936 she married Dock Henry Mayo Summers in Waco. A longtime member of College Avenue Baptist Church, she taught Sunday School for over 62 years in the Ruth Class and adult classes. She was also a member of the W.M.U. for many years. For many years she worked at home as a seamstress and was later employed by Krause Drug Store and Bokay Flowers as a clerk before retirement in 1983.
Two sisters, Gussie Holcomb and Zuma Gann; two brothers, Louis White and Wiley Echols preceded her in death.
Survivors include husband, Dock Summers; son Dannie Louis Summers; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Ralph Rushing; five grandchildren, Annette Johnson, Rae Jen Bailey, Tracy Hehs, Clinton Summers, Deanna Gallegos, and seven gret-grandchildren.
