Charles Edward Van Cleave, Sr. 83, of Canton, formerly of Waco died Friday at a Dallas hospital.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at China Spring Cemetery, the Rev. J. Michael Eubanks and the Rev. Rollo Herrington officiating.

Mr. Van Cleave was born Feb. 21, 1906, in Paris, Tenn. where he attended schools. He moved to Texas when he was a teenager and married Elsie Peterson on April 1, 1925. Mr. Van Cleave was a paint contractor in Waco for many years. He retired in 1963 and began ranching. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Anita Glass of Waco; son, Charles Edward Van Cleave, Jr. of Canton; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
