Stephen Wayne Herbert, 83, of China Spring, passed away on July 12, 2021 after a short but valiant battle with cancer.
Steve was born on August 19, 1937 to Robert and Louise Herbert in Nacogdoches, Texas. After graduating from Waco High School, he went on to graduate from Baylor University. After graduation, he served in the United States Air Force for six years. After leaving the Air Force, Steve worked as a trust officer, ending his career as a Senior Vice President at Wells Fargo Bank in 2001.
While at Baylor, he met the love of his life, Peggy O’Neal. They were married in 1960 and enjoyed 61 years together. They were blessed with two children, Debbie and Mike. Steve was a master craftsman in wood working and made countless pieces of furniture and other special projects, many times as a donation to a worthy cause.
If he wasn’t in the house, he could be found working in his woodshop on his latest creation. He was an active member of China Spring United Methodist Church and enjoyed the friendship and fellowship of his church family. Steve served on the China Spring ISD Education Foundation and was active with the China Spring Tabernacle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Robert Herbert.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy; daughter Debbie and husband Kyle; son Mike and wife Donna; grandchildren Taylor Burroughs and wife Sandi; Paige Pabor and husband Ryan; and Hunter Herbert; and great-grandchildren Darcy Burroughs and Rowyn Pabor.
